I Want a Friend Who Doesn’t Blink

It’s great to have friends. Many of us, through different teachings and settings, have learned that there are different levels of friendship. There may be people you consider acquaintances, general friends, and those inner circle friends, with whom we can share more personal information. I’m adding another category to those. I want a friend who doesn’t blink! Here’s what that friend would look like. It’s the friend who not only won’t tell your business, but it’s also the friend who doesn’t blink if you tell them that you are tired of speaking the Word over something that still hasn’t manifested. She knows who you are deep down. She has respected you in the past and will still respect you. She will even be able to receive a ‘Word’ from God through you again in the future. She can read between the lines and understand that this is a temporary state of your natural mind and body. She will allow you to say this without immediately quoting scripture to you and making you feel defeated and unworthy.

This friend will discern when it’s the right time to calmly straighten you out, only as a ‘sister-friend’ can – gently, truthfully, lovingly, and perhaps with added humor that causes you to do a self-examination and laugh at yourself. Then, that friend will pick up where you all left off and say, “Ok, what’s for lunch and where are we going shopping?” This friend won’t hold your outburst against you and think you are no longer a faithful, powerful woman of God. She still trusts you enough to ask you to pray for her in the future. This is indeed a friend who doesn’t blink at your occasional lapses of faith. She won’t allow you to remain there, of course, but it doesn’t faze her to the point of thinking or saying, “I thought she had more faith than that!”

I’m thankful that I do have this kind of friend who doesn’t blink. I pray that young and old women of God have at least one of this type of friend. This person is invaluable. She is with you in the ‘not so pretty moments’ when you have reached your limit. She helps dry your tears, dust off your skirt and hold onto you until you get your second wind. Then, she calls you the next day and asks you to pray for her situation, because she knows you are a mighty and victorious woman of God. I am convinced that God has provided us with this source of earthly support. So, I am praying that you find your friend who doesn’t blink. We all need her.

Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
